New Newspaper Coming to Campus Community at Texas A&M and Blinn

MockUp2

This fall, there will be a brand new, shiny newspaper on newsstands all over the Texas A&M and Blinn campus areas.

The newspapers will be free for students and faculty to take. The new newspaper will literally be shiny, following the ten year old trend of many upscale weekly and monthly papers that have been going glossy.

It will be the same size as the popular Research Valley Press, following an idea put forward by mailed monthly newspapers (like Community Impact of Austin, Dallas and Houston) of “going small” in terms of size, smaller than even a standard tabloid newspaper format.

It will also feature several other innovations, like new print to web integrations with the online version of the paper, Scene979.com and the campus deals site CampusVIP.net designed to drive social and web traffic in addition to more foot traffic for advertisers.

The look/feel of the new publication is being Art Directed by, Chance Okonski, owner of KIE Men’s Shoppe and nationally recognized fashion stylist. Okonski will also serve as the publication’s Fashion Editor.

Over 25,000 copies of each issue of the The Scene Campus Newspaper and Campus VIP Coupon Magazine are to be made available FREE to students, faculty, and staff in the Texas A&M University and Blinn College areas, both on-campus and off.

Distribution occurs through high traffic events like back-to-school book rush as well as through hundreds of take-one rack locations on campus, at shuttle stops, on Northgate, at dorms and student communities, and other locations hand-picked for their high student traffic.

The Scene will be on the “flip side” as the second front cover of Campus VIP Magazine, the campus community’s biggest coupon book in terms of local ad count, serving Aggieland since 1999.

“The coupon magazine and The Scene will be a winning combination of great deals and relevant, useful content. Students will keep and use it. Advertisers will see phenomenal results,” says Scene / Campus VIP Publisher David Flash.

About Campus VIP Magazine

Brazos VIP Magazine, introduced last year, has become very a popular way for local families to save and discover great local businesses. It has also proven itself to be an extremely effective, trackable way for over 70 local businesses to advertise. Now, the makers of Brazos VIP are bringing the popular coupon magazine format to the Texas A&M and Blinn Campuses starting in August 2016.

The founders of Brazos VIP got their start in the Bryan-College Station market back in 1999 with their Student Discount Handbook, a 4 by 6 inch, full-color, coupon book that claims the top spot as the biggest coupon book on campus (in terms of local ad count and coupon content) year after year.

Last semester, they re-branded the Student Discount Handbook as the Campus VIP Coupon Book. This semester, they are making the Campus VIP coupon publication match the format of their popular Brazos VIP Magazine with the introduction of the new Campus VIP Magazine format.

Magazines like Campus VIP are a proven concept, utilized as a key part of many media plans in hundreds of markets across the country, so many local B/CS franchisees of national chains already have ad templates ready to go in the new size.

Publisher David Flash says of the new magazine, “A great looking magazine plus tons of great coupons add up to a book that students keep and use for months. Campus VIP books will stay in backpacks, purses, and glove compartments all semester long. As students and faculty reach for Campus VIP again and again throughout the year, your advertising message continues to reach the campus community. Campus VIP Magazine’s shelf life translates into an excellent return on investment for you, the advertiser, as you see a steady flow of traffic from your ad all year long.”

Campus VIP Coupon Magazines will be printed and distributed five times a year: at the start and middle of each Fall and Spring semester, and once in the Summer. Campus VIP is professionally designed, and printed in full color gloss.

Like the popular Brazos VIP Magazine, which features an additional publication title on the “flip cover,” the new Campus VIP Magazine will have the exciting new campus newspaper, The Scene, on its flip side, adding valuable content and increasing engagement and shelf-life.
